About Dr. Mandel

Dr. Mandel is board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College or Surgeons and he completed his plastic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison.

He earned his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore and completed his undergraduate degree at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Dr. Benjamin Mandel was born and raised in New York City. After high school, he enrolled at Wesleyan University where he obtained a liberal arts degree with a focus on studio arts. He was awarded honors on his senior thesis, a series of etchings, woodcuts, and graphic art. Dr. Mandel then worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where he designed and programmed award winning educational software. During that time, he completed a post-baccalaureate pre-medical program at Columbia University. After finishing his studies in New York, Dr. Mandel attended the Johns Hopkins Medical School, which is consistently rated within the top five medical schools in the nation. Dr. Mandel then completed his General Surgery residency training at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison.

He stayed on for training in an independent residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Wisconsin. While in Madison, Dr. Mandel won the General Surgery Resident Educator Award, the Plastic Surgery Resident Educator Award, and two years in a row was issued the Outstanding Resident Award. He is board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Mandel is grateful for the opportunity to serve the plastic and reconstructive surgery needs of the community of the inland northwest. His clinical interests are broad, and include, but are not limited to, breast reconstruction, addressing congenital differences, reconstruction after cancer, trauma, or burn, microsurgery, and breast reduction surgery in addition to aesthetic procedures. Dr. Mandel believes that Plastic and Reconstructive surgery is as much about psychological healing as it is technical, and as such, is committed to compassionate care comprised of listening, clear communication, patient education and involvement, and medical excellence. Dr. Mandel lives in Coeur d’Alene with his wife, Brinnon, who has a joint MPH-MBA and currently works in global health. They enjoy family time with their two children. In addition, they like to compete in triathlons, Nordic ski, travel, read, and make art.
