Medical Nutrition Therapy is an individual plan of healthy eating based on an individual’s nutrition needs and medical history. A team of registered dietitian nutritionists provides medical nutrition therapy for Kootenai Health inpatients and outpatients. Registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN) are food and nutrition experts, translating the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living and disease management. They are the most credible and reliable source of accurate nutrition information.
Individual outpatient appointments for adults and pediatrics include (but are not limited to) medical nutrition therapy for:
- Weight management
- Kidney disease
- Heart disease
- Food allergies
- Gastrointestinal disorders

Many insurance plans will cover your visit to see a registered dietitian. Contact your insurance company to determine if medical nutrition therapy is a covered benefit. Medicare allows a certain number of visits for people with diabetes or end-stage renal disease.
