As the emergency referral center for the region, Kootenai Health has the staffing and equipment necessary to provide rapid, life-saving response for a broad spectrum of illnesses and injury. Kootenai Health is an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma verified Level III Trauma Center and Idaho Time Sensitive Emergencies designated Level II Trauma Center. Additionally, Kootenai Health is an interventional cardiac facility able to provide treatment for heart attacks and other cardiac emergencies.
Kootenai Health Emergency Department consistently delivers the quality, comprehensive care our community has come to expect from Kootenai Health. The Emergency Department is designed to treat severe and life-threatening conditions including:
- Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
- Chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure
- Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
- Changes in vision, difficulty speaking
- Confusion, changes in mental status
- Bone fractures, severe lacerations, wounds, or burns
- Sudden or severe pain
- Uncontrolled bleeding
- Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
- Coughing or vomiting blood
- Pregnancy-related complications
- Suspected poisoning
- Suicidal feelings or behavioral health concerns
