American College of Radiology Accreditation | View Site
Kootenai Outpatient Imaging is one of 300 facilities in the U.S. to be designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). To earn this designation, Kootenai’s breast imaging services have been fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
Kootenai Outpatient Imaging was also commended in peer-review evaluations conducted by physicians and medical physicists, which noted high practice standards for image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
Excellence in Cancer Care – CoC Accreditation by American College of Surgeons: Cancer Programs
Kootenai Clinic Cancer Services received CoC accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a result of a successful demonstration by the center that patients have access to the full scope of services required for diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and support.
“A” Grade for Patient Safety by the Leapfrog Group
Kootenai Health was one of 844 hospitals to receive an “A” for patient safety, ranking it among the safest hospitals in the United States. Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign letter grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year.
Center of Excellence for Hip and Knee Replacement by DNV GL Healthcare – This certification recognizes excellence in orthopedic surgery within the scope of hip and knee replacement surgery. It means Kootenai Health has demonstrated an exemplary level of care and adherence to practice standards set by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Kootenai Clinic Cancer Services was granted a full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

In 2014, Kootenai Health was verified as a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. To receive verification, Kootenai had to prove it has the hospital resources needed for trauma care and can provide the entire spectrum of care to meet all of an injured patient’s needs. Reviewers evaluated every phase of trauma patient care.
Level II Trauma Center, State of Idaho Time Sensitive Emergency System | View Site
In 2016, Kootenai Health was designated as a Level II Trauma Center by the State of Idaho Time Sensitive Emergency System. To receive the designation, Kootenai Health had to verify that it has the hospital resources needed for trauma care and able to provide the entire spectrum of care to meet all of an injured patient’s needs.

In 2002, Kootenai Health joined an elite group of about 100 healthcare facilities to demonstrate the highest standard of care for mothers and babies. Kootenai has maintained MagnetTM status since 2006. This designation is nursing’s top honor, accepted nationally as the gold standard for nursing excellence. Kootenai Health is the second hospital in Idaho to receive this designation and the first in the Inland Northwest.
Level III NICU
In 2016, Kootenai was named a Level III NICU. We can care for babies born as early as 28 weeks gestation, and those as small as 2 pounds. All nursing and respiratory therapy staff have undergone the education and training necessary to provide Level III intensive care to our neonates.

Each year, the Ohio-based group evaluates 3,000 hospitals nationwide and awards each a Community Value Index score.
