Medical Nutrition Therapy
A team of qualified inpatient dietitians provides medical nutrition therapy for Kootenai Health patients. Medical nutrition therapy is an individual plan of healthy eating based on an individual’s nutritional needs and medical history.
Medical Nutrition Therapy is an individual plan of healthy eating based on an individual’s nutrition needs and medical history. A team of registered dietitian nutritionists provides medical nutrition therapy for Kootenai Health inpatients and outpatients. Registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN) are food and nutrition experts, translating the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living and disease management. They are the most credible and reliable source of accurate nutrition information.
Individual outpatient appointments for adults and pediatrics include (but are not limited to) medical nutrition therapy for:
- Weight management
- Kidney disease
- Heart disease
- Pre-diabetes
- Food allergies
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Liver disease
- Hypertension
- Disordered eating
Insurance Coverage
Many insurance plans will cover your visit to see a registered dietitian. Contact your insurance company to determine if medical nutrition therapy is a covered benefit. Medicare allows a certain number of visits for people with diabetes or end-stage renal disease.
Room Service
Patients have access to room service and meals that are tailored to their dietary needs. Patients or a designated family member are able to order meals by calling (208) 625-6655 or by using the GetWell system in the patient’s room. Room service is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is delivered directly to the patient’s room.
