Funding will support the Safe Kids Kootenai County program
The Kootenai Health Foundation is proud to announce the receipt of a $4,500 grant from the IRONMAN Foundation to support the Safe Kids Kootenai County traumatic injury prevention program. As a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations dedicated to eliminating unintentional injury and death to children, Safe Kids Kootenai County provides evidence-based data and injury prevention strategies on a variety of topics including bicycle safety, helmet safety, car safety, car seats, boosters and seat belt safety, water and boating safety and many others.
The goal of Safe Kids is to reduce the number of child injuries and death in our community by providing year-round comprehensive injury prevention programming to reach and serve as many children and families as possible. Through collaboration with area partners, Safe Kids provides outreach and education to empower parents, grandparents and caregivers with information to help keep kids safe. The program is facilitated through Kootenai Health’s Trauma Services with an Injury Prevention Coordinator fully dedicated to manage the program. In 2013 the Safe Kids program reached over 1,600 children through education and safety prevention programs and even more through community outreach events and health fairs.
In conjunction with the 2014 IRONMAN® Coeur d’Alene event, the IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund distributed a total of $70,000 in grant donations to local nonprofit groups in the Coeur d’Alene community who have a volunteerism component to their organizations. Since the first IRONMAN® Coeur d’Alene event in 2003, donations totaling $575,000 have been provided by the IRONMAN Foundation to support local non-profit beneficiaries who will use the funds toward initiatives to better the Coeur d’Alene community.
