Kootenai Health Foundation is pleased to announce over $50,000 was raised at the 27th annual golf tournament presented by Chapman Financial Services. The spring event has raised over $632,000 to benefit patient care at Kootenai Health and serves as a great kick-off to summer in northern Idaho. Held Thursday, May 19 at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, 144 players and over 50 sponsors joined to support the Foundation’s fundraiser with proceeds supporting the expansion of Kootenai Health’s emergency and operating departments.
“As Kootenai Health has expanded services to care for the patients and families of northern Idaho, we continue to see higher patient volumes. Additional space is needed to accommodate these patients,” said Kootenai Health’s CEO, Jon Ness.
Kootenai Health’s emergency department was originally built to accommodate 32,000 annual patient visits. Today, Kootenai Health has one of the busiest emergency departments in the state and provides emergency care to 50,000 patients annually. This expansion will be designed to serve 55,000 to 57,000 patients yearly.
The $45.2 million expansion will include the emergency department, operating rooms, and related support departments. The project will add 7,000 square feet of new space to the emergency department and will increase total capacity to 36 rooms. The emergency entrance will include a new ambulance bay and an expanded waiting room. Three additional operating rooms will be added to the surgical department for a total of 11 operating suites. Additionally, the pharmacy, sterile processing, and central supply areas will expand to meet the growing need.
The mission of the Foundation is to inspire philanthropy to support innovation and excellence at Kootenai Health.
“One of the many ways the Foundation engages community members and local businesses in supporting our community-owned, non-profit hospital is through fundraising events,” said Kootenai Health Foundation Chair, Mike Chapman. “We are grateful for the partnerships with our friends and donors that make this event possible. Their investments are directly impacting the health care of our community today and into the future.”
The Kootenai Health Foundation was established in 1983 to support the health care needs of our community. Since that time, the Foundation has provided over $15 million to directly support patient care at Kootenai Health.
