Dr. McGowan gave me my life back! Before my surgery with him I could not move my left arm and was in so much pain I was bedridden. Immediately after surgery I could walk upright, my pain was gone and I felt great! I would give him more than 5 stars if I could. I just could not thank him enough.
Dr McGowen has been someone that has shown a lot of integrity, that knows his profession well. I had two surgeries, on my spine and spinal cord, in the damaged area from C5 to C7. I know this particular subject well, due to my daughter being non complete quadriplegic from the same area, C5, over 30 years ago. I spent 6 months at her bedside and studied her condition from the in-house libraries. My first surgery was incomplete due to my large frame. Though this surgery helped my condition greatly. With Dr McGowen's expertise MRIs were done and in addition to a brain tumor he found significant problems associated with the previous mentioned conditions. I had experienced stroke like symptoms when my entire left side went completely numb from the armpit down. Including other areas of concern, which I thought might be from diabetes. I just returned home from the hospital yesterday, for a long-term recovery period. Dr McGowen is the type of person that I like to deal with, in any profession or circumstance. I would hire him for whatever his profession is. Integrity. I would like to do a little follow-up on my previous review. I have now been home for 4 days since leaving the hospital. For me, the healing process includes rest periods during recovery. I do feel that there have been improvements after this last surgery. A lot of the problems associated with my lower extremities, I was certain that it was diabetes related and not the spinal cord issues. Now with the improvements, they seem to be increasingly related to the spinal problems. As I previously stated, there was significant improvement after the first surgery. In addition to my daughter being incomplete quadriplegic, I have a friend since childhood that was the only walking quadriplegic. Like 50 years ago, the nervous system is an ongoing study process. As my condition seemed to be improving, something that I detected seemed to be unexpected. During my rest period, I would take the two-tablet dose of pain medication and lie flat on my back with a pillow under my head. The same as I do at night, though I am not specific to a time frame for rest. Then on occasion I would get like an electrical nerve symptom impulse. Not specific to on area. Mostly the leg area, or both legs in an area, but just recently I had this quick impulse in my arm/chest area. I am not in the medical field. but it seems to be like the nervous system repair in action. The spinal cord being released of the bruising pressure of damaged vertebrae. I am encouraged. As I always told Dr McGowen, he always made good choices.
Dr. McGowan performed my latest neck surgery. He and his staff were extremely professional and the level of care was exceptional! From my first appt. to MRI, injections and surgery was less than 2 months. Thanks for the repair…you’re all “Rock Stars.”
