Ear Infection

Urgent Care or ER?
Ear infections can develop when fluid builds up in the inner ear.
An ear infection occurs when one or both Eustachian tubes (small tubes that run from each ear directly to the back of the throat) become swollen or blocked, causing fluid to build up in the inner ear. Common symptoms include ear pain or discomfort, a feeling of pressure, hearing loss, ringing, and discharge.

Same Day
Urgent Care
  • Ear pain lasting more than 1–3 days may be treated with an antibiotic. A decongestant may also be recommended, depending on symptoms, to help relieve ear pressure.
  • Most ear infections treated with antibiotics begin to improve within 2–3 days. Finish the full course of antibiotics as prescribed.
  • If symptoms are not improving or are getting worse, a different antibiotic may be needed.
