Minimally Invasive Heart Procedures
Minimally Invasive Heart Procedures
Advanced interventional cardiology—stents, angioplasty, and cardiac emergency response.
Kootenai Health’s interventional cardiologists use catheter-based techniques—usually the same day a blockage is found to manage coronary disease. In dedicated cardiac catheterization labs, our board-certified physicians perform procedures like angioplasty and stenting. These procedures have less recovery time than traditional surgery.
Restoring blood flow quickly during a cardiac emergency matters. Our specialists perform these procedures routinely—with the equipment and training to handle even complex cases. For people across North Idaho, this level of care is close to home.
Kootenai Health original Heart Center as well as recent 2022 expansion made possible through donations and community support of the Kootenai Health Foundation.

What to Expect
Accessing the artery
- A specialist inserts a thin, flexible tube (catheter) through an artery or vein in your leg.
- The catheter is carefully navigated through your blood vessels directly to the heart or the affected artery.

Regional Leader in Structural Heart Treatments
Our structural heart program includes a team of physicians who have performed more than 1,000 LAAO procedures to help reduce stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation. Our cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons collaborate to evaluate your heart and determine the best treatment approach for your structural heart condition.
What Happens in the Cath Lab
Our cardiac catheterization labs are where physicians use live imaging to see inside your heart and treat blockages on the spot by reopening the artery using a small balloon, a stent, or both. That means no transfer and no waiting for the treatment you need.
