Breast Cancer

Idaho’s only breast center of excellence. Right here in North Idaho.

An abnormal mammogram, a biopsy recommendation, or a new diagnosis brings questions. What does this mean? What happens next? Where do I go? The last one is straightforward: the breast cancer care you need is here.

As Idaho’s only breast center of excellence recognized through the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), you have access to a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, advanced imaging, and coordinated treatment across surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and imaging working around your case.

Whether you're following up on imaging, facing a new diagnosis, or looking for a second opinion, we're ready to take the next step with you.

3D Mammography + ABUS Imaging

Imaging that sees more—so you know sooner
Two imaging tools that see more than a standard mammogram so your team has a clearer picture to decide next steps.

If something feels off, it’s worth checking.

Schedule a mammogram and take a closer look at your breast health.

Better imaging. More informed next steps.

We use advanced imaging technology, recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, to help detect changes earlier and guide your treatment planning with greater detail.

3D Mammography – Advanced breast imaging designed to detect and evaluate changes in breast tissue with greater detail than standard 2D mammography.

Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) – Provides additional imaging for patients with dense breast tissue or when standard imaging requires a close evaluation.

Bone Density (DEXA) – Assesses bone health, which may become important during or after certain breast cancer treatments.

Expertise that looks beyond the tumor.

Breast cancer surgery is not only about removing cancer. It is also about protecting long-term function and quality of life whenever possible. Our fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist brings specialized expertise to procedures that may help reduce the risk of lymphedema for appropriate patients.

This includes advanced approaches such as Axillary Reverse Mapping (ARM) and Targeted Axillary Dissection (TAD), which help guide surgical planning around lymphatic structures during surgery. At Kootenai Health, we think about how to best support your recovery from the very beginning.

Kirstie’s Story

After six months of chemotherapy and a year on bed rest, Kirstie fought back from breast cancer and lived cancer-free for 15 years. When it returned as stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, her team went above and beyond—her oncologist even calling her from his home to check and see how she was doing.

At Kootenai Clinic, she found effective care and support, along with hope. Now, her scans show no new tumors and some shrinking. She said what she loved most about her care team is they treat the whole person.

“Find out what your options are, and go forward.”
— Kirstie Misquez | Breast Cancer Patient
