Robotic Surgery

North Idaho has never settled for ordinary. Neither has our approach to surgery.

Robotic Surgery

Recognized as a Robotic Surgery Center of Excellence

When your doctor recommends surgery, your first question probably isn't, "Will it be robotic?" It's, "What will recovery look like?"

For many procedures, robotic surgery can help answer that question. Your surgeon uses robotic technology to operate through smaller incisions with greater precision, which may mean less discomfort and a shorter hospital stay. At Kootenai Health, our surgeons combine years of expertise with advanced robotic technology to improve surgical outcomes across a wide range of specialties, including general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, urology, gynecology, and brain and spine surgery.

As a Robotic Surgery Center of Excellence, Kootenai Health is recognized for delivering robotic surgical care that meets rigorous standards for quality, safety and patient outcomes.

2 Advanced Robotic Platforms

More options for your surgery
From da Vinci to ExcelsiusGPS, our surgeons choose the robotic technology that's best suited to your procedure.
“The robotic platform allows a surgeon to be the best surgeon he or she can be! Finally, it provides the magnification, dexterity, and analytic feedback to improve patient outcomes from the modern era to the future era.”
— Ed deTar, M.D.

How the da Vinci® Surgical System works

Your surgeon stays in control. The technology expands what's possible.

The da Vinci® Surgical System gives your surgeon a high-definition, magnified 3D view of the surgical area and greater precision during many minimally invasive procedures. Every movement is guided by your surgeon, allowing them to operate through smaller incisions when appropriate.

The da Vinci system helps your surgeon:

  • See delicate anatomy in greater detail
  • Make precise movements in tight spaces
  • Reach difficult-to-access areas
  • Perform many procedures through smaller incisions
  • Expand minimally invasive treatment options

ExcelsiusGPS™ Brain and Spine Surgery

Great surgery starts with a thoughtful plan.

For certain advanced brain and spine procedures, your surgeon may use the ExcelsiusGPS™ robotic navigation system to carefully plan the procedure before surgery begins. During surgery, it provides real-time guidance that helps your surgeon place instruments with accuracy while supporting minimally invasive techniques when appropriate.

Equipment made possible by generous donors' support of the Kootenai Health Foundation.

Lois’s Story

Years of back pain made it difficult for Lois to enjoy life. “I was at the point I could hardly move anymore,” she said. After other treatments didn't provide relief, she underwent robotic spine surgery with Dr. Jeff Larson using the ExcelsiusGPS system.

“I feel fantastic. It brought back my joy.”
