Andrea’s Closet
So much more than a toy.
A hospital stay can stir up emotions for anyone, especially kids who are still learning to process big feelings. Being away from the comforts of home can feel overwhelming, so our pediatric staff help bring reassurance and comfort by giving children the chance to pick something special from Andrea’s Closet.
The program was inspired by a young cancer patient in Arizona who convinced a hospital employee to let her keep a toy that was meant as a temporary distraction. Since coming to Kootenai Health, each pediatric patient can choose a toy and a book that matches their age and interests. We also invite siblings to pick something when possible, because we know small moments of comfort make a big difference for kids facing the unfamiliar.
Since 2004
Decades of delivering comfort
Thanks to our donors, thousands of kids have received comfort items during their hospital stay.
Every Child Supported
Lifting hearts by offering choices
Kids in the hospital can feel scared or bored. Choosing a toy or book gives them something of their own during a stressful time.
Community-Powered
Hometown spirit caring for our youngest
Donations from local families, businesses, and community groups help keep Andrea’s Closet stocked year-round.
“Andrea’s Closet offers families a sense of comfort and control during what can often be a stressful and disorienting time. By giving pediatric patients and their siblings the chance to choose toys and games, we help create positive moments and support the well-being of the entire family during their hospital experience.”
