Cost Estimates and Coverage

How do I get a personalized cost estimate?

Kootenai Health is happy to provide personalized cost estimates for patients. Please visit our Price Estimates page for details on how to get an estimate.

What will my insurance pay?

If you have insurance, your insurance company can help you get an estimate for what you will pay for a specific procedure. Your insurance company is a good place to start when determining out of pocket costs in advance because it will know your specific coverage, benefits, deductibles and co-pays. Some insurance companies offer online tools for estimates while others have customer service numbers to call for you to determine the cost.

Why do health care costs vary?

The ultimate “out of pocket” cost to you for health care services is difficult to define, because it can be impacted by many factors:

  • Your health insurance
  • Your unique health condition and needs
  • Your provider

What is Kootenai Health’s Charity Care Policy?

Kootenai Health believes that medically necessary health care services should be accessible to all, regardless of age, gender, geographic location, cultural background, physical mobility or ability to pay. Kootenai Health is committed to providing health care services and acknowledges that in some cases the patient will not be financially able to pay for the services rendered. Kootenai Health has developed a policy that describes Charity Care eligibility requirements and approval process. Generally, eligibility for charity care is determined by comparing the patient’s income to the Federal Poverty Level Income Guidelines (FPG) as established by the Department of Health and Human Services. Please download the policy for details on the process and for the application.

Insurance Basics

Common Insurance Terms
  • Deductible: The amount you are responsible to pay out-of-pocket before your insurance company will begin paying for covered services. This is usually an annual expense.
  • Co-payment: The dollar amount payable by you for covered services. This is often a fixed dollar amount. Example: $20 co-payment for routine office visits.
  • Co-insurance: A percentage of your charges that remain after the deductible is met, that your insurance company will not pay. For example, some insurance companies pay 80 percent. Your co-insurance would be 20 percent.
