What to Expect

Pre-Visit
  • Ensure that you have an active Kootenai Health MyChart account
  • This visit is a Video Visit, using a camera and audio:
    • The ideal equipment to use is a smartphone or tablet launching the visit through your MyChart app.
    • If using a computer, a laptop or desktop with a built-in camera and speaker would be best
  • Your provider must be licensed in the state where you are physically located during the visit. If you will be in a different location than what was originally scheduled, please contact the office in advance.
  • To avoid technical issues during your visit, please complete a hardware test through the steps below well in advance of your visit.
    • Log in to MyChart, select your upcoming video visit, and click on TEST HARDWARE.
    • If you cannot complete the device test, please get in touch with your clinic ahead of the appointment for technical advice.
  • If you need additional help, please call MyChart Customer Support at 208-625-3200.
  • If you are still experiencing technical difficulties, please call your provider’s office right away to schedule an alternative visit option, so we may provide your care as soon as possible.
Day of Visit

Before the start of your virtual visit:

  • Find a well-lit location to conduct your visit. Make sure there is good lighting so your health care provider can see you.
  • Make sure the camera is steady. Set your computer or laptop on a flat surface or prop up your device on a desk or table.
  • Make sure you are in the middle of the screen, and the camera is at eye level. What you see on your screen is the same thing the provider will see. It is important to make sure that you are close to the screen and looking straight into the camera.
  • Reduce background noise. Find a quiet place and reduce any distractions. Turn off alarms and sounds on other devices.
  • Close other applications on your device to improve internet connection and reduce distractions.

Recommendations for a successful virtual visit:

  • Choose a private spot. You will want to be able to discuss your health care issues in private. Do not do a telehealth visit while you are driving, running errands or in a public space.
  • Write it down. Write down important information before the visit such as:
    • Your current medications and doses (or gather the actual bottles)
    • Any symptoms, questions, or concerns you want to discuss
    • Your temperature or weight (if the provider asks for this information)
  • Keep paper and pen nearby to take notes during your virtual care appointment
  • Stay focused. Try to avoid eating, drinking, or multitasking during your appointment.
  • Be patient while waiting for your visit. Just like a regular in-person office visit, providers sometimes run behind schedule.

15 minutes before your scheduled appointment:

  1. Log into your MyChart app.
  2. Select the Appointments icon, and under Upcoming select the appropriate video visit.
  3. Click BEGIN VIDEO VISIT to start the appointment. The button is available 15 minutes before the scheduled start of your appointment.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to connect and enable the camera and microphone.
  5. Your provider will join the Video Visit and appear on your screen at the time of the appointment.

Note: MyChart closes after 20 minutes of inactivity on the main MyChart page. You may need to periodically refresh your page.

After Your Virtual Visit
  • Make sure to review your After Visit Summary (AVS) within your MyChart.
  • Contact the office or your provider if you have questions. If you forgot to ask a question, think of something later, or need help to better understand your care, you can always contact your provider after your appointment.
  • Give feedback and suggestions.
