A serious injury, stroke, or heart attack can change what a patient needs in minutes. At Kootenai Health, the teams built to respond are connected from the start. Emergency physicians, trauma surgeons, critical care providers, nurses and specialists work together to quickly understand what’s happening and bring in the right level of expertise.

As a regional emergency and trauma referral center, we serve communities across North Idaho and the Inland Northwest—including patients transferred to Kootenai Health when they need advanced critical care, surgical expertise or other higher-level capabilities.

Level II

Trauma Center
ACS-verified trauma capabilities bring surgical, critical care and specialty expertise together for patients with serious injuries.

Level I+

STEMI Center
Advanced cardiac capabilities support rapid diagnosis and treatment for heart attacks and other time-sensitive cardiac emergencies.

Level II

Stroke Center
Dedicated protocols and 24-hour neurology coverage support rapid diagnosis and treatment when stroke is suspected.

Hospitals across the Inland Northwest transfer patients to Kootenai Health when they need advanced critical care, surgical expertise or specialty services not available closer to home. Emergency physicians, trauma surgeons, critical care providers and specialists work together to stabilize, evaluate and treat each patient.

Meets national standards for the resources and expertise needed to evaluate and treat serious injuries.
Provides 24/7 access to cardiac catheterization to quickly reopen blocked arteries and restore blood flow during a heart attack.
Meets Idaho TSE standards for rapid stroke diagnosis and treatment, supported by 24-hour neurology coverage.
