Summary
Dr. Torgenson received his undergraduate education at the University of Utah and continued on to Washington University in St. Louis for medical school. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics over six years, with one year dedicated to research. He received the Chief Resident Teaching Award, voted on by medical students and fellow residents.Dr. Torgenson continues to lead the way for the Enhanced Recovery Pathway in colorectal surgery. After attending conferences at the Mayo Clinic and the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress, Dr. Torgenson has developed an Enhanced Recovery Pathway for colorectal surgery patients at Kootenai Health. This pathway has been shown to significantly reduce inpatient stays, decrease complications, and decrease cost. He provides a broad range of surgical services, including general surgery, endoscopy, and advanced laparoscopy. He has experience in cancer care, colorectal surgery and trauma surgery.
Dr. Torgenson enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children. He was born in Idaho Falls, but grew up in St. George, Utah. He moved to northern Idaho in 2009. He enjoys spending time outside and participating in activities such as fishing, camping, hiking, and running.
