Cardiac rehabilitation is a program to help people recover from heart attacks, heart failure, heart surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures such as stents and angioplasty. Cardiac rehab provides education and other services to help heart patients increase physical fitness, reduce cardiac symptoms, improve health and reduce the risk of future heart problems, including heart attack.
Cardiac rehab begins while you recover in the hospital following a cardiac event or diagnosis. It can continue after you are release from the hospital. Outpatient rehab consists of monitored exercise classes held three times a week.
Information is given to assist you in reducing stress, improving your diet and understanding your health status. Individualized education is provided based on your particular interest and need.
