A home away from home
The Walden House, built in 1989 by the Kootenai Health Foundation, is named in honor of A.K. (Ace) and Ellen Walden, long time supporters of the the Foundation and local community.
This nine-bedroom home provides comfortable lodging for outpatients and their families while receiving treatment at Kootenai Health or the Kootenai Clinic's Cancer Services. Since it opened in January 1990, the house has served thousands of people from across the United States and beyond.
Guests must be medically stable. However, if there are special needs or health risks, they must inform the Walden House manager prior to their arrival. There is a $25 per night lodging fee and a $5 fee for cleaning service. Arrangements can be made for those who are not financially able to pay these fees.
Check-in can be arranged by calling The Walden House at (208) 666-3268, or Kootenai Health's Social Services at (208) 666-2930. After-hours check in may also be arranged through Kootenai Health's nursing supervisor at (208) 666-2000.
